Daniel Gafford, born on October 1, 1998, is an American professional basketball player for the Washington Wizards in the NBA. Gafford’s journey began as a four-star recruit in high school, leading him to play college basketball for the Arkansas Razorbacks. At Arkansas, he showcased his talent, averaging 16.9 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game in his sophomore year, earning accolades such as 2019 SEC All-Defensive Team and First Team All-SEC.

Drafted 38th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls, Gafford made his NBA debut in October of that year. His tenure with the Bulls included a stint with their G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls, and a notable thumb injury in early 2020. In March 2021, Gafford was traded to the Washington Wizards, where he made an immediate impact by breaking the record for field goal percentage in the 2021 NBA playoffs.

His performance with the Wizards earned him a three-year, $40.2 million contract extension in October 2021. One of his memorable moments with the team was a buzzer-beating, game-winning putback against the Detroit Pistons in March 2023.

“People make business decisions all the time. My business decision is playing defense.”

– Daniel Gafford
