Duane was raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan and went to high school for his first three years at Grand Rapids Christian High School. He averaged 13.1 points and 4.5 assists as a junior. He would then transfer to Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles before his senior season of high school. During his time at Sierra Canyon, he averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game as a senior and would commit to playing collegiately at Ohio State University.

In Duane’s second game at Ohio State against Purdue Fort Wayne, hescored 20 points in 21 minutes off the bench. For the year, he played in 35 games, starting two of them. He averaged 7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 17.2 minutes per game. Duane scored a career–high 30 points in a 87–92 loss against Michigan during his junior season. He would average 16.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game that season and on March 31, 2021, declared for the 2021 NBA draft.

After going undrafted, Duane signed a two-way contract with the Indiana Pacers on August 5, 2021.
