Tariq spent his senior year of 2018-19 with the Texas Tech Red Raiders that advanced to their first Final Four in program history, eventually losing to Virginia in the National Championship game. The 6’10 power forward played a monumental roll during their run to the national championship game as a rim protector who brought energy and highlight worthy dunks each night, averaging 8.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game. Tariq was also selected to the Big 12 Conference All-Defensive Team and honorable mention All-Big 12 for his senior season.

CAREER

Tariq went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft, eventually signing with the Phoenix Suns summer league team. He went on to sign with the Suns G League affiliate Northern Arizona Suns, quickly showing his ability to affect the game on both ends of the floor with his hustle, rebounding, and rim protecting.

On January 15, 2020, Tariq signed a Two-Way contract with the Suns for the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

“He’s protecting the rim, blocking shots, dives on pick and rolls and puts pressure on the rim, so he’s starting to get into a groove of where he can really impact the game.”
